A job description is an essential part of recruiting. It outlines the main duties of the post. In the interest of clarity, it is useful from the point of view of both the employee and the employer to have in writing, the requirements of the post.

The following is an example of a job description. You should offer information relevant to your particular situation.

Responsible to: Employer's name.

Salary: You will be paid £____ per hour.

Hours: _____ hours per week.

Place of Work: e.g. Newtownards, west Belfast etc.

Description of Post: The main duties of this post will be to provide support for a disabled person with domestic and social tasks.

Support: Help with washing, dressing, getting in and out of bed and shaving.

Domestic Tasks: Providing assistance with preparation of daily meals, vacuuming, dusting, polishing and ironing.

Outside Activities: Support with keeping appointments, collecting prescriptions, accompanying me to social events, assistance to visit friends and family and collecting benefits.

Other Duties: Assisting me with any other tasks that I may reasonably request.
